As Parliament resumes after its Summer recess, the spritual battles continue and we thought it would be useful to go over some of the current issues that are likely to feature over the coming months that we need to be aware of and praying over.
Members of Parliament returned before the start of the holidays back in July, albeit with various restrictions in place due to the ongoing Covid situation. During the last few months, much of Parliament’s work has been conducted quietly, some online and other parts in the dark corridors of Westminster.
A number of policy initatives as well as legislation is scheduled for the coming months. As you will read here, there is so much going on its almost as if the devil is throwing everything around so as to make it hard for us to know what to focus on. The spiritual battles are certainly intensifying which means we need to turn to God even more and rely on Him to give us wisdom and understanding in all these areas of the battle.
Sex & Relationships Education
The new regulations forcing all achools to teach sex and relationships education to children as young as five have gone into force with the start of the new school year. These regulations advance the sexualisation of children and expose our children to ever more explicit materials at an ever younger age. A report yesterday showed some of the explicit ‘games’ as part of toolkits isued to schools which encourages children aged just 13 to roll a dice and work out which sexual activities could be done using the body parts on the dice. The curriculum states that LGBT lifestyles must be promoted alongside opposite sex relationships. For those advocating such indoctrination, it is never enough and curriculum content never goes far enough for them. It will only be a matter of time before drag queen story time is the mainstay of every school.
Our children need nurturing and protecting, not indoctrinated with demonic explicit sexual materials. We need to pray that the content children are being exposed to is exposed so it can be shut down.
The Government’s scheme of presumed consent for organ donation went live back in May in the middle of lockdown. You would be forgiven for missing it as almost nothing was said at the time (perhaps deliberately). This new law automatically hands your body over to the state for use as it deems fit upon your death. Previously the system was on an opt-in basis, however not enough people were registered so the law was changed to assume consent unless you opt out.
Whilst there are very good and reasonable arguments in favour of organ donation, a system of blanket automatic consent means that your body becomes the property of the state when you die. As followers of Chirst, we do not belong to the state. We can choose to offer our bodies to be used for organ donation after our death, however that fundamentally different from the state owning our body by default.
We need to be alert to any further changes that further empower the state in this area. We encourage you to opt out of organ donation until you have fully considered if you want your body to be used for donation after you die.
The Government’s reckless decision to deem abortion an ‘essential service’ during the pandmemic and subsequent double u-turn to permit DIY home abortions has already led to the deaths of many unborn children. At least two women have died of complicaitons resulting from this dangerous and wicked regime. The Centre for Bioethical Reform (CBR UK) conducted with the support of Christian Concern an undercover exercise to see how easy it would be to obtain a home abortion kit. Their findings were shocking with one woman able to get a kit posted to her home address (even though it was not her own address and she did not even use her real name). All she stated on a telephone consultation was she had unexpectedly got pregnant and was going on holiday and “did not want to look pregnant”. Without a full consultation with a doctor, the woman was able to obtain a lethal abortion kit.
Attempts to highjack the Domestic Abuse Bill by further liberalising abortion laws were successfully resisted – evidence that the advocates of abortion will often overplay their cards and end up losing. This victory showed what can be done when the message is focusd and MPs are carefully targeted with a specific message. If the amendments had been selected and passed, abortion would have been permitted up to birth for almost any reason which would have represented som eof the most extreme abortion laws anywhere in the world.
As if these temporary measures are not bad enough, it has now been revealed the Government is looking to make them permanent and will shortly launch a consultation on it. The fact the Government was able to permit DIY abortions by way of a double u-turn without a change in the law and without any form of scrutiny or parliamentary votes after they confirmd that no such change would take place shows just how important it is to keep watching, keep alert and never assume the battle is over.
The abortion industry will never give up in their efforts to see the next generation slaughtered before they even get the chance at life. We must keep up the pressure and we must never cease in praying for an end to this wicked set of laws that permit the slaughter of the unborn. Abortion numbers continue to climb. Statistics in Scotland show last year saw the second highest ever number of abortions and the highest since 2008. A concerted effort to expose the reality of abortion and show there are other options for women is needed to change attitudes.
There was a hint last week that Euthanasia could be back on the agenda. We reported that Andrew Mitchell, a senior Conservative MP reckons attitudes towards euthanasia are changing and it could result in a vote to change the law within the next four years, before the next General Election. The last time MPs voted on this issue, it was overwhelmingly defeated, however as with all these moral issues, we must not rest for that is when the enemy will pounce. We have a duty to protect the most vulnerable in society and that means we must pray for atittudes of protecting life to prevail in parliament. We cannot leave convincing MPs until the day before a vote. Those who would wish to see a change in the law are working hard behind the scenes to change attitudes and we must do likewise to ensure life is upheld.
The draconian laws brought in to enforce lockdown back in March was put through Parliament without a proper vote. Such was the ’emergency’ of the situation it was deemed the law needed rushed through as quickly as posssible. However, it is less well known that those laws are in place for two years. The Government wants to extend them for a further two years and it is unclear whether there will be any debate on it in Parliament or even a vote.
These are the laws that shut the church down whilst off-licences and abortion clinics remained open. These are the laws that permitted a church to gather to run a soup kitchen but not to gather for corporate worship. These are the laws that has given the State unprecedented powers of coercion and control over our lives. Any extension to these laws when the pandemic is all but over and just about every statistic used over the last six months exposed as a fraud must be resisted. Mark our words – if these laws are extended now, they will be made permanent and they’ll use them to continually restrict our freedoms in other areas.
We cannot bow to a state that bans churches meeting and restricts corporate worship, regardless of a pandemic situation. The state has acted far outside the realms of its God given parameters and when it does so we have no obligation to be obedient to the state for it has tried to restrict that which God not only permits, but commands in his Word.
Gay ‘Conversion’ Therapy
Boris Johnson has anounced the Government will be bringing forward a ban on so-called gay conversion therapy.
Much confusion surrounds this issue and what exactly will be banned. For excample, will it be illegal for help to be offered to those who wish to move away from homosexual lifestyles? Will people wanting help be able to seek it? Will we be breaking the law if we simply pray for someone unhappy with same sex attraction in their life?
There is a lot of misinformation surrounding gay ‘conversion’ therapies. Some practices are abhorent and cause more damage to an individual than homosexuality itself. However, organisations such as Core Issues Trust simply offer counselling to those who wish to move away from homosexual lifestyles.
The proposed ban is a deeply sinister plan that needs to be resisted. It is founded on the idea that sexuality is a fixed thing and cannot be changed despite the same people campagning for a law change to allow people to easily swap genders. It will need to be introduced in law so we can expect to see a Government bill being tabled in the near future. Please pray over this issue as it is of vital importance that those who wish to seek help can continue to do so.
The imposition of the transgender agenda continues to show no end. The previous government under Theresa May had promised to legislate to permit self-identification. This dangerous idea seemed to have died a death under Boris Jonson with Liz Truss, the Women’s & Equalities Minister suggesting plans had been dropped due to concerns about protections of single sex spaces. A consultation on the matter recieved over 100,000 responses and the government is yet to reveal the results of it. Usually this is due to large opposition and the need to tweak policies. However, just before the summer it seemed the proposals had been resurrected, but it remains unclear whether they will progress with many government ministers uneasy about such a radical change to the Gender Recognition Act.
Currently people wishing to change gender need to live in the opposite gender for two years before having surgery and only after that can they get a changed gender certificate. Allowing self-identification would allow people to change on a whim without fully considering what they are doing and without the need for any medical certification.
There is a growing community of transgender people who regret having taken the irreversable decisions they have taken. Their stories and experiences show that it is vitally important we have strong protections in place to ensure people cannot be coerced into changing gender.
It is not just abortion that the government has sought to use the p(l)andemic to advance liberalising legistation. Mid way through lockdwon, it was announced (leaked) that plans were being made to temporarily relax Sunday trading laws. Of course, we all know that once a temporary measure is put in place it becomes much harder to reimpose it and this is obviously what they were seeking to acheive. Hidden under the guise of ‘restarting the economy’, plans showed all shops beign able to operate unrestricted hours on Sundays putting the current protections thousands of shop workers currently enjoy at risk. Unfortunately for the government, an enormous fuss was kicked up on the Conservative back benches and faced with a sizeable revolt, and possibly even defeat, the plans were shelved in what was one of the most significant and yet very quiet victories in recent years.
This however is yet another area where we must remain vigilant. Victory is to be celebrated, but one victory is not a permanent victory so we cannot relax.
Spiritual Battles Continue: Watch and Pray
As you can see from this overview of current issues swirling around the political scene, there are so many spiritual battles in progress. There is much to be concerned for and praying about. There is power in prayer and we have already seen over the last few years, particularly with the national days of prayer organised by David Hathaway how God hears the cry of his people.
Whilst we may have a season of mercy through cutting off from the European Union and being saved from hard left socialist government under Jeremy Corbyn, we are still a nation under judgement and judgement begins not in the Houses of Parliament, but the House of God. God calls us, his people to a higher standard. We have a responsibility to watch over the nation yet sadly so much of the church has been caught asleep at the wheel if they even were at the wheel in the first place.
This covid crisis has exposed the state of the church. It has exposed it for the weak, wooly, liberal, do-gooder social care centre it has become. There is now almost no difference between what a secular charity does and what much of the church does. The press releases are the same. The activities are the same. Even the people are the same. People should be able to see a difference with how the church conducts itself because of what (and who) motiviates us. It is important we reach out to the community and show them the love of Christ by providing for their needs. But if we stop there it is no good.We need to tell them the gospel and get them saved from the eternal fires of hell.
2 Chronicles 7:14, the founding scripture of this ministry says that if “MY people”, that means us – the church. We the church need to arise in this hour in spirit and in truth. We need to stand boldly and unashamedly on the Word of God and we need to come before God seeking forgiveness of sins that God would come and heal this United Kingdom.
We’ll continue to let you know what is going on in Parliament and the political scene but we all must be praying over these issues. We all must be praying for the changing and transforming of hearts.
Once we get awakening in the church then we can have revival in the nation and from there the social change will come, but it starts with us. It starts with you. Are you ready? Are you willing? Do you care enough to pray that prayer of 2 Chronicles 7:14 with a new level of sincerity?
If your answer to these quesitons is “yes”, then start today, let us know in the comments your thoughts on these issues and how we should be praying in this hour.
