A back door attempt to bring assisted suicide to the UK has been rejected by the House of Lords.
A vote on an amendment to the Health and Care Bill that would have forced the government to bring forward a bill to legalise assisted suicide failed to pass by 179-145 votes.
This latest attempt is the twelfth time since 1997 that various parliamentary mechanisms have been used (often misused) in attempt to overturn the current law.
Responding to the amendment failing, the CEO of campaign group Care Not Killing, Gordon Macdonald, said Peers had recognised, âthe dangers of ripping up laws that protect the terminally ill and disabled people from feeling like a burdenâ.
Any attempt to bring in assisted suicide would further erode the value placed on life. It has been revealed that during the covid pandemic, disabled people were given âdo not resuscitateâ orders that fundamentally undermine the unique value of humans created in the image of God.
Let us thank God that assisted suicide has been rejected. Let us pray that all future attempts to legalise assisted suicide in the UK will continue to fail. Let us pray that this nation will uphold and protect all human life.
