Civil Servants in Northern Ireland have been told they must use transgender pronouns or risk losing their job it has emerged.
In yet another encroachment into the political and civil affairs of Northern Ireland, a change in guidlines were issued quietly whilst Northern Ireland had no executive. Having already imposed abortion on Northern Ireland, it seems Westminster has taken things further by attempting to alter civil service working behaviour.
According to The Newsletter, “The change in the civil service rules takes the form of a new segment of its staff handbook, entitled the “Trans Equality Policy Statement”.” The updated policy says, “people perform better when they can be themselves”, that the objective is to have “a truly inclusive workplace which reflects the society we serve”.”
Self Identification Causing Confusion
Advocates for the transgender community want to place ‘self-identification’ on the statute books meaning a sex change operation is not even needed for someone to choose to identify as a different gender. This could easily lead to civil servants being disciplined for ‘mis-gendering’ a fellow employee without their even knowing the person wished to be known by one of the many different genders that supposedly exist.
The guidance is clear that those who refuse to tell a lie by calling someone a gender that is different to their own will face disciplinary action: “Intentionally and persistently mis-gendering or using colleagues’ previous names would amount to harassment and should not be tolerated.”
The guidance goes further on toilets. It reccomends ‘gender neutral’ toilets to be created, but where they are not, men idenifying as women should be allowed to use women’s toilets.
Losing Job Nothing New
This new policy will be of great concern to Christians and many others for whom the trans agenda does not sit well with what they know to be the truth that there are two genders, male and female. People losing their job for refusing to join in the affirming of gender confused people is nothing new. A few years ago, school teacher Joshua Sutcliffe lost his job after he refused to call a girl a boy and numerous others have found themselves on the naughty step for refusing to embrace the trans agenda.
Stand Firm for Truth
The need to stand firm on the truth that God created two genders – male and female is reinforced by the news of this recent policy change. Workplaces across the country have been busy putting in place similar policies that seek to be inclusive of all sexualities and genders whilst ignoring the confusion it leads to.
As Christians, we must recognise that our faith is not a private matter. It must govern how we act everywhere, including the workplace. Whilst we should not seek to cause a stir, we need to gently refuse to comply with these policies which require people to lie. The best policy is to always stick to the truth for that is where God will honour us.
